Evergreen man jailed on $1 million bond; officers find meth, cocaine, marijuana and more
A high speed chase initiated last Friday within the Brewton city limits ended with the suspect involved in a crash in Flomaton involving two Flomaton police vehicles with the suspect being tased and arrested on multiple drug charges and traffic violations mount.
Devante Aaron Knight, 31, 414 Magnolia Ave., Evergreen, was charged by Flomaton police with two counts of felony assault II, felony attempting to elude, trafficking cocaine, trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking Amphetamine, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana I and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Brewton Police Department also charged Knight with a felony count of attempting to elude.
Following the crash in Flomaton with two police vehicles, police reported he refused officers' request to exit the vehicle, Knight was tased by Flomaton police and taken into custody. Knight was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and jailed on $1 million bond.
Court records state Brewton police attempted a traffic stop about 12:08 a.m. last Friday and Knight began to flee. During the pursuit by Brewton police, records show Knight was traveling in excess of 100 mph as he traveled through Brewton streets and onto Highway 31 heading south.
About 1 a.m. last Friday, Flomaton police got involved with the chase.
According to Flomaton police reports, two vehicles driven by officers with the Flomaton Police Department were hit multiple times by Knight's vehicle. Reports state officers were able to disable Knight's vehicle on Sidney Manning Boulevard and that Knight was noncompliant with officers which led to him being tased by Flomaton police and placed under arrest.
When Flomaton officers searched Knight's vehicle they reported finding 74 grams of marijuana, 42 grams of crack cocaine, 43 grams of synthetic marijuana (spice), 9 grams of powdered cocaine, 34 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy) and 4 grams of LSD.
In addition to the charges, Flomaton police said additional traffic citations will be issued.
At the time of his arrest, Knight was on probation and had apparently recently been released from prison. In 2021 he was convicted of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and sentenced to 104 months in prison. He was also sentenced on an escape charge.
