Beware of funny $
The Flomaton Police Department has secured arrest warrants on two people who are accused of passing and attempting to pass counterfeit bills at the Circle K convenient store Tuesday.
The discovery of the fake bills comes just weeks after other fake bills turned up at Flomaton stores.
Inv. Charlie Land said two fake $20 bills and one fake $10 bill were used at the Circle K. He said one suspect purchased gas and a pack of cigarettes and paid for the transaction with a fake $10 bill and two good $1 bills. The other suspect attempted to purchase a fountain drink with a fake $10 bill, however the clerk recognized the bill as fake and refused to accept it. Land said the suspect left the store with the fountain drink.
Land added that warrants have been obtained for the arrest of the two on charges of theft of property IV, possession of a forged instrument and circulating counterfeit money. Land noted the secret service has been notified concerning the fake bills.
Land said while the bills looked real they had flaws, including the texture of the paper and misalignment in certain areas.
“We just want people to be aware fake money is being circulated,” Land said.
He said if a clerk thinks the bill is fake, they should refuse the sale, keep the bill and call the police.
