Taxes can be paid online in Escambia

Property taxes become delinquent Jan. 2

Escambia County (Ala.) Tax Collector Tim Pettis is reminding property owners that their property tax bills are due by Jan. 2, 2024 and noted taxes can be paid online or at the tax collector's office.

Property taxes were due Oct. 1 but will not be delinquent until Jan. 2. Normally, taxes are due Dec. 31, but since that date falls on a Sunday and Monday, Jan. 1 is a holiday, taxes are due Tuesday, Jan. 2 to avoid a penalty.

Pettis said his office billed out $20,513,856.04 in ad valorem taxes and as of Tuesday, about $5.4 million had been collected. He added that his office has received about $83,000 from people paying for 414 parcels paying online.

People wanting to pay their taxes online need to go to EscambiaCountyAL.gov and follow instructions.

Payments can also be paid through the mail to the tax collector's office at P.O. Box 407, Brewton, Ala. Payments through the mail must be postmarked by Jan. 2.

Property taxes can be paid in person at the tax collector's office inside the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton or the satellite courthouse in Atmore.

Anyone with questions can contact Pettis at [email protected] or call the office at 251-867-0209, 251-867-0215, 251-867-0213 or 251-867-0299.
