Man flees flees with illegal gun; caught
A traffic stop for an expired tag Tuesday on old Old Atmore Road in Flomaton sent two people to jail; one for drugs and one who fled the scene with an illegal firearm.
Treniece Shuntell Wimes, 35, 115 Swift St., Atmore was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (spice), unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence. She was also issued traffic citations for having an expired tag and no proof of insurance.
Gregory Davis, 30, 271 Dixon Road, Flomaton, was charged with attempting to elude, possession of a firearm with an altered identification number and obstruction of governmental operations.
Both were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
According to reports from the Flomaton Police Department, following the traffic stop the department's K-9 alerted on the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed 9 grams of synthetic marijuana (spice), four packages of rolling papers and several small partially-smoke spice cigarettes.
Wimes' tampering with evidence charge was based on police saying she tossed a partially-smoked cigarette into the woods after the traffic stop.
Police reported while they were placing the handcuffs on Wimes for the drug charges, Davis fled into the woods on foot. Officers gave chase and used a taser to make him stop. Reports note Davis told the officers he fled because he had a gun.
Officers then retrieved a pistol from Davis' waistband that had the serial number filed off.
