Also accused of trying to steal her money
A Brewton man was arrested on multiple charges of trying steal money from his 86-year old mother and striking her over the head and on the chest with a pool stick.
Kwame L. Crewell, 38, 317 Lewis Lane, was charged with two counts of attempted theft of property I, domestic violence assault II, financial exploitation of the elderly, two counts of false imprisonment I and two counts of interfering with a domestic violence emergency call.
Crewell was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and later given a $300,000 bond.
According to court records, on Feb. 14 and 15, Crewell held his wife and mother against their will, refusing to let them leave the home, and had his mother write a $7,000 check to him. He took his wife to one bank to deposit the check into what Crewell thought was a joint account with his wife, but instead was deposited into his wife's account and later redeposited into Crewell's mother's account.
He also had his mother write another $7,000 check and took his wife and mother to another bank and attempted to have it cashed.
He is also accused of striking his mother over the head with the pool stick and causing injury to her chest area that resulted in swelling in multiple places and bleeding.
After his mother's and wife's attempts to dial 911 to seek medical care, Crewell is accused of disconnecting the two landline telephones in the house and remove the telephones to prevent them from making calls.
