Johnson clocked doing 62 in 25 mph zone
An Athens, Ala., man first observed on Martin Luther King Drive in Flomaton without a seatbelt is accused of attempting to elude the police and clocked doing 62 mph in a 25 mph zone, running through stop signs then exiting his vehicle in an attempt to flee.
Shavakie Devon Johnson, 44, was arrested and charged with a felony count of attempting to elude, resisting arrest and driving under the influence. He was also issued citations for not having his seatbelt on and driving while his license was revoked.
Police reports state about 7 p.m. Monday, March 25, Flomaton Officer Dewayne Longmire was on Martin Luther King Drive near the intersection of Highway 113. He observed the driver, later identified as Johnson, turn onto Martin Luther King Drive wearing no seatbelt.
Police reported when Johnson went past the patrol car he sped up to 62 mph and was observed running through stop signs. Officer Longmire activated his emergency lights an attempted to make a traffic stop.
Johnson then turned onto Carter Drive, driving 45 mph in a 15 mph zone before turning into 118 Carter Drive where Johnson exited the vehicle and ran to the carport.
Johnson was ordered to get on the ground and later handcuffed. Officer Longmire reported a strong odor of alcohol on Johnson's breath and a check on his driver's license showed he had an active warrant for his arrest in Madison County for violation of probation on a previous DUI charge.
Johnson was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
