Sterback accused of firing his gun after he returned home; cops find spice, pot in home

A Jay man being served a search warrant on March 27 who was not at home arrived and fired two shots from his vehicle and then fled the scene, leading deputies on a 14-mile chase and the later discovery of $200,000 worth of drugs in his residence, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office report.

Travis Paul Sterback, 27, 4994 Dobson Road, was the suspect named when memebrs of the Santa Rosa and Escambia County Sheriff's Offices were on scene serving a residential search warrant at 4994 Dobson Road when Sterback arrived, according to reports.

Sterback stopped his Chevrolet SUV on the road in front of his house and fired two shots from the open driver's window, the report said. He was immediately confronted by detectives on the scene who identified themselves and ordered him to stop. Sterback then fled the scene in his vehicle at a high rate of speed toward the city of Milton and was pursued by multiple law enforcement vehicles. The pursuit reached speeds exceeding 100 mph, the report said, with Sterback passing multiple marked patrol vehicles with emergency equipment active during the pursuit. The suspect fled for about 14 miles before being stopped. A search of Sterback's vehicle revealed two guns.

Sterback was arrested and charged with one count felony eluding and one count misdemeanor firing a weapon in public.

A search of Sterback's property recovered 150 pounds of synthetic cannabinoids (Spice) in total, with the street value of $200,000, and 1.2 pounds of marijuana. Also $3,000 in cash, believed to be from criminal activity, was recovered, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office's social media post.

In a redacted report, Sterback acknowledged and denied amounts of drugs hidden on his property, the report said. Sterback was charged with one count felony possession and one count felony trafficking. He was transported to Santa Rosa County Jail in Motion and given no bond pending first appearance.
