Stabbing victim now a suspect in Atmore

A victim who was stabbed April 23 at Tractor Supply in Atmore is now a suspect in the stabbing incident that left another individual in critical condition.

Atmore police have not released the names of the other victim or the suspect.

According to reports, on April 23, police were dispatched to Tractor Supply at 161 Lindberg Ave., in reference to two people being stabbed. When officers arrived on the scene, one of the male subjects was lying just inside the entry to Tractor Supply bleeding profusely.

The second male subject was found seriously injured in the parking lot, also bleeding profusely and officers and other citizens provided first aide to slow the blood loss.

Police stated they made contact with two other male subjects in the parking lot who had a large amount of blood on their clothing, but were not injured. Those two individuals were detained by the officers and later transported to the Atmore Police Department where they were questioned and released.

The two people suffering from stab wounds were transported to Atmore Community Hospital and immediately flown to different trauma centers.

Police investigators interviewed several witnesses at the scene.

Police said due to the medical conditions of the two individuals who were stabbed, investigators were not able to interview them for several days.

Reports note Atmore officers viewed camera footage which clearly showed who was involved and their actions. Police said statements and the video footage provided a clear picture of the incident.

Police noted they interviewed the two men who were stabbed while they remained in intensive care. Police stated the male subject who was found injured in the parking lot suffered a punctured lung, bruising across both eyes and cheeks and is currently paralyzed below the waist.

The injured man found in the doorway of Tractor Supply had multiple surgeries once reaching the hospital.

Police said investigators and the district attorney’s office reviewed all the evidence, discussed the video and the statements and made the determination that the injured party found inside Tractor Supply will be charged with assault I once he becomes ambulatory.
