Strickland gets introduced as baseball coach

Hurricane fans welcome him to Flomaton

Parents, fans, players and members of the community gathered Monday at the Flomaton High School library to welcome David Strickland as the new head baseball coach for the Hurricanes.

Strickland replaces Troy Brown who resigned as Flomaton's baseball coach. Strickland will also serve as the physical education teacher at Flomaton Elementary School.

Strickland, 31, is a native of Valley, Ala., and graduated from Beulah High School. He played one year of junior college baseball and four years of football at Point University in West Point, Ga.

He began his coaching career in Lanett as the head baseball coach and assistant football coach.

During his coaching career Strickland was the pitching coach for 5A Valley High School, which lost in the semi-finals.

Strickland said was excited and ready to get to work. He noted his wife is from Cantonment and her parents still live there.

"We were wanting to get closer and this was a great opportunity," Strickland said. "Flomaton has a great tradition in baseball and I want to help continue that tradition."
