Fourth of July events to begin

East Brewton, Century, Jay and Poarch set

Next Thursday, festivities will kick off local fourth of July celebrations around 9 a.m. in East Brewton and continue all day with fireworks Thursday night in East Brewton, Jay and Poarch. The fireworks show on Friday night in Century will wrap up the celebrations.

East Brewton

East Brewton's annual celebration will start at 9 a.m., Thursday, July 4.

At 9 a.m., the spades tournament will begin, the cost is $5 per person, $10 per team. Bingo will start at 1 p.m. at the senior citizen's building on Williamson St. The cost to enter is $2 per Bingo card. At 4 p.m., a horseshoe tournament will start at East Brewton Park. The cost is $5 per person and $10 per team.

The local entertainment will start at 5 p.m. and the duck race will begin at 6 p.m.

The main band, Mancil Rock Mafia, will begin playing at 7:30 until the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.

Concessions will be available at the park that evening during the festivities and at the senior building that morning.

Century

The Century-Flomaton annual July 4th Celebration will begin at 4 p.m., Friday, July 5 at Showalter Park, located on Kelly Field Road in Century. There will be food trucks, a bounce house and a sound system for musical entertainment. The fireworks show will begin around dark. Bring a lawn chair and sit and enjoy the fireworks show.

Jay

The 25th Annual Celebrate Freedom 5K Road Race and 1 Mile Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m., Thursday, July 4, at Jay City Hall. The fee is $25 the day of the race, $20 if you pre-register beginning at 6:30 a.m. the day of the race. Trophies will be given to the top 3 finishers in each of 32 age groups. Overall awards will be given to the top male and female open runners, master runners, grand master runners and senior grand master runners. T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 100 runners who register. Watermelon and refreshments will be served following the race. The Town of Jay will hold its annual fireworks show around 9 p.m., Thursday, July 4, in the same location as last year, the center of the park property. Parking will be available off of Max Lane in the parking area between the two baseball fields. There will be no other parking available on the park property. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit and enjoy the show.

Poarch

Wind Creek Atmore, located on Highway 21 in Poarch near Atmore, will have a fireworks show at 9 p.m., Thursday, July 4. Guests can park and watch or bring a chair and find a location to sit and enjoy the show.
