Jay Operations Manager Eric Seib told the council Monday night the town has hired an independent contractor for its water and wastewater services to remain in compliance following the death of former Water and Wastewater Superintendent ‘Rocky’ Witt June 19.
“We’ve hired a part-time water and wastewater operations independent contractor to hold our licenses and do daily sampling until we can find a long-term solution,” said Seib.
Seib said that the town has an inter-local agreement with eight other water utilities as part of NSRUA (North Santa Rosa Utilities Authority) in north Santa Rosa County that are in agreement to help each other. He said he sent out a text to all the other water operators to find soneone who could assist with Jay’s operations.
“That’s where we found our independent water operator, from them,” said Seib. “They provided me a name who is a great person who is doing great stuff for us and helping us out and is super nice. We’ve got a few options to look at, but short-term we’ve got water and wastewater covered.”
Seib said in time, the town will advertise for the position but feels that for the time the town is covered and in good hands.
Joy in Jay
The council briefly talked about plans for Joy in Jay, Jay’s week-long holiday celebration, this year and decided on a date to offer the indoor skating rink, which seemed to be a big hit last year. The rink is an air-conditioned enclosed area where people can ice skate the town tried last year for the first time.
Seib said they settled on having it open on the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving, which will be November 25 and 26.
“It seemed to be a big hit last year,” said Seib. “We had to sortof crunch the schedule because of when Christmas falls and when the kids get out of school.”
The next council meeting will be at 6 p.m., Monday, July 15, at Jay Town Hall. The public is invited.
