Missouri man dies, multiple others injured in three vehicle collision on Fourth of July
One person was killed and several people injured in a multi-vehicle crash July 4 on Highway 31 near Flomaton.
William H. Moore, 69, of Higginsville, MO., died from his injuries while being transported to D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash occurred last Thursday about 4:15 p.m. six miles south of Brewton.
State trooper reports state the crash occurred when a 2017 Jeep Liberty, driven by Shirley A. Moore, 60, of Higginsville, struck a 2020 Ram 1500 driven by Demetruis L. Preyer, 39, of Pensacola. After the initial collision, Moore’s jeep was struck by a 2020 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Carolyn A. Albert, 55, of Atmore.
Moore was a passenger in in the Jeep Liberty, driven by his wife Shirley.
Troopers reported Shirley Moore and Albert were transported by helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Troopers noted Shirley Moore was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Preyer was transported by ambulance to D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton. Conditions on those injured were not available as of press time Wednesday.
Flomaton Fire Chief Steve Stanton said a 911 call was received at Flomaton dispatch at 4:19 p.m. He said when he arrived on the scene the jeep driven by Shirley Moore was on it’s side with the driver’s side down on the roadway.
Stanton also said he was notified by McCall Volunteer Fire Department Chief Charles Jackson that two people were trapped inside the jeep.
Units from Flomaton, Friendship, McCall and the Escambia County (Ala.) Rescue Squad responded.
Stanton said when Flomaton firemen arrived on the scene, extrication of Shirley and William Moore began.
Stanton noted that William Moore was wearing a seatbelt and fireman cut the belt away to get him out of the vehicle.
Stanton said he was originally told by Flomaton dispatch that no EMS units were available and ambulances would be coming out of Conecuh County. However, D.W. McMillan ambulances responded and Coneuch County in route ambulances stationed in Brewton to cover calls is needed.
Stanton said AirCare 2 and LifeSaver 5 helicopters, one from Atmore and another from Evergreen, arrived to transport two patients to Sacred Heart.
Stanton said once Shirley and William Moore were taken out of the vehicle, firemen provided CPR to William Moore until the ambulances arrived.
Stanton said he learned the Moores were heading to visit family members in Pollard when the crash occurred.
