Century OKs $3.4 million bid for its sewer lift stations

Grant money to repair five of towns station

Tuesday night, the Century Town Council approved to award the lowest bid of $3,365,175 to Talcon Group in repairing five of the 22 of the town’s sewer lift stations as part of Phase II Project.

Phase II Project includes work at the wastewater treatment plant and rehabilitation of the town’s 22 lift stations, five of which were bid on by Municipal Engineering.

Municipal Engineering’s Dale Long presented to the council for the $3 million estimated repairs of the lift stations: No. 1 at Century Correctional Institute; No. 5 at Century Woods; No. 8 on Highway 4 west; No. 16 on Jefferson Avenue; and No. 20 at the corner of Pond Street and Jefferson Avenue.

Councilwoman Sandra McMurray Jackson made the motion to authorize the mayor to grant the job to Talcon Group, which was seconded by Councilman Henry Cunningham. The motion carried.

Council Members Dynette Lewis and Shelisa McCall were not present.

In other business, the council:

-Approved the transfer of $6,235.74 from Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) funds for a State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan payment

-Approved the transfer of $4,907.35 from LOST funds for an SRF loan payment

-Approved the new travel policy for town employees

The next council meeting will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Century Town Hall.
