Sen. Britt secures $700,000 grant for McMillan Hospital in Brewton

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt announced last week that D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton will receive a $700,000 grant for necessary medical equipment to improve patient care which is part of $15.218 million Sen. Britt secured for health care needs in Alabama.

Britt, a member of the senate committee on appropriations locked in the $700,000 for D.W. McMillan for the 2025 fiscal year from the labor, health, human services and education related agencies appropriation act.

“Healthcare is critical for the wellbeing of communities across the state of Alabama,” Sen. Britt stated in a press release. “As a daughter of rural Alabama, I understand that every community has unique needs, which is why I worked to secure $700,000 for D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital to procure needed medical equipment to improve patient care.”

“When I took office, I promised to return your hard-earned taxpayer dollars to Alabama. These funds are returning home to our great state in a commonsense way, investing in the long-term medical care of Alabamians.”

Her release does note that the grant now waits on consideration by the full senate.

Stacy Hines, administrator of D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital, praised Sen. Britt for including the hospital in her appropriations.

“We are very thankful for Sen. Katie Britt working to secure much-needed financial support through the fiscal year 2025 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Act,” Hines said. “The funding for D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital will help offset capital expenses related to the medical equipment in our hospitals and clinics.”

“We are fortunate that Sen. Britt continues to advocate for rural healthcare and the ongoing needs in communities like ours in Escambia County,” Hines added.

In addition to the grant to D.W. McMillan, Britt’s allocation also included $500,000 for Monroe County Hospital for critical equipment necessary to provide healthcare services.
