Sheriff asks for info
An investigation continues following the Saturday night shooting death of an Appleton resident whose body was found on the side of the road who died from from at least one gunshot wound.
Aubrey McAllister ‘Mackie’ Jackson, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene and as of press time Wednesday, no arrests had been made.
Escambia County Sheriff Heath Jackson said deputies were dispatched about 9 p.m. Saturday in reference to a body lying on the side of the road.
Deputies, along with Sheriff Jackson responded to the scene and determined the victim, later identified as Jackson, had been shot. Jackson noted the case is being investigated as a homicide.
Jackson said investigators have been talking to residents in the area and the investigation continues.
Jackson’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

A native of Pascagoula, Miss., and lifelong resident of Escambia County, Ala., Jackson served as a machine operator at Georgia Pacific.
Jackson, a 2007 graduate of T.R. Miller High School, played baseball for Jefferson Davis Community College and loved to fish and hunt.
Jackson’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Craver’s Funeral Home in Brewton with Brother Doug Darby officiating. Burial will be held at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Craver’s Funeral Home directing.
Jackson is survived by his parents, Dennis and Spring Jackson of Brewton; his wife Manila Jackson of Brewton; two daughters, Carsyn Powell of Castleberry and Cara Penton of Brewton; two sons, Peyson Jackson of Brewton and Will Penton of Brewton; two brothers, Matt Jackson and Ryan Jackson, both of Brewton.
