Flomaton man gets charged

Williams arrested for chaining dogs with no water or cover in his yard

A Flomaton man was arrested on three counts of cruelty to animals after police found five dogs in his back yard chained without access to adequate food, water or shelter.

Reginald Lee Williams, 38, 2139 Cary St., was arrested Aug. 15 on warrants signed by the Flomaton Police Department.

Inv. Clay Smith said the arrest stemmed from a July 2 complaint from an individual concerning the dogs that the individual told police appeared to be suffering from the heat.

Smith said police did a welfare check on the dogs and saw the conditions. Inv. Smith added that one of the dogs had completely wrapped the chain on his neck around a metal pole, preventing the dog from moving. Smith added the temperature the day police arrived was 98 degrees.

Smith described the dogs as three adults and two puppies that were pit bulls.

Escambia County's animal control unit came to the location and seized the dogs.
