Brewton murder suspect jailed

17-year old Mobile resident is arrested, charged with murder

A 17-year-old Mobile resident was arrested Thursday by U.S. Marshals and charged with murder for the Aug. 17 shooting death of Aubrey McAllister 'Mackie' Jackson, 35, of Brewton.

Tyrek A. Ball was arrested in Mobile and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton. A bond hearing Friday was closed to the public due to Ball's juvenile status.

Escambia County Sheriff Heath Jackson said there are other people the sheriff's office is currently looking for in connection with Jackson's murder.

Sheriff's deputies originally responded to the Appleton community about 9 p.m. Aug. 17 in reference to a body lying on the side of the road. Deputies identified the victim as Mackie Jackson and determined he had been shot.

Sheriff Jackson said the investigation has revealed that the murder happened during the commission of a drug deal that went sour.

Ball was arrested in 2024 in Mobile County for Robbery I and was adjudicated as an adult. Under a plea agreement, Ball pleaded guilty to robbery II and was sentenced to five years in prison. The sentence was suspended and Ball was given time served in the Mobile County Jail. The rest of his sentence was suspended and he was placed on two years of probation.

Sheriff Jackson said as the investigation continues, he asks that anyone with information concerning Mackie Jackson's death call the sheriff's office at 251-089-2154 or their nearest law enforcement agency.
