Friendship man dies in Saturday Fire

An investigation continues into the Saturday afternoon fire in the Friendship community that claimed the life of a man described to be in his mid-60s.

As of press time Wednesday the name of the person who died in the fire had not been released.

Flomaton Fire Chief Steve Stanton said a 911 call came into the Flomaton dispatch at 3:42 p.m. Saturday of a fire at 144 Branch Road with a subject trapped inside.

Flomaton and Friendship fire departments were immediately dispatched.

Stanton said he and the Friendship Fire Department arrived at about the same time and someone in the yard said someone was trapped inside the building. Stanton said the building was fully involved when they arrived and it took 15 to 20 minutes to extinguish the fire. Once firemen entered the building they found the victim.

Stanton said the Escambia County Sheriff's Office dispatched officers to the scene and the state fire marshal's office was contacted to determine the cause of the fire.

No other information was available.
