Atmore man arrested for attempted murder; jailed

Williams was out on bond on murder charges in Conecuh

An Atmore man remains in the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton on $1 million bond after being arrested by Atmore police on attempted murder charges.

According to Atmore police, officers were dispatched to Atmore Community Hospital about 11:55 p.m. Sept. 28 in reference to a gunshot victim who arrived at the hospital by private vehicle. The investigation led to the arrest of Edward La'Marlon Jaheim Williams, 23, 217 Beatline Road on attempted murder charges.

During a bond hearing Oct. 1 before Escambia County District Judge Eric Coale, the district attorney's office requested a bond of $500,000, but Judge Coale set the bond at $1 million, noting that Williams was out on bond on murder charges in Conecuh County at the time of the shooting in Atmore.

Williams, along with Branden A. Fantroy, 27, of Repton, were arrested in May, 2023, and charged with murder in the shooting death of Donnell Dailey, 49, during argument over a ballgame about two miles south of Belleville on Conecuh County Road 49.

Court records state the shooting victim, identified as Jermiah Jerome Johnson, was at the gas pumps at Mike & Ike's convenience store located at 50 Carver Ave., when he was approached by Williams.

Records state Williams was armed with a handgun and first struck Johnson with the gun and immediately began cussing and fired one shot, striking Johnson in the torso. Johnson collapsed and Williams fled the scene.

After arriving at Atmore Community Hospital, Johnson was airlifted to a trauma center in Mobile in critical condition. An update on his condition was not available as of press time.

Williams was identified as the suspect and was taken into custody about 1:35 p.m. Monday at a residence in Atmore and transported to the detention center.
