Commission honors Wilson for service on hospital board

Karean Reynolds will bring replacement nominee to commission

The Escambia County (Ala.) Commission honored Atmore resident Delois Wilson for her many years of service as a member of the Escambia County Healthcare Authority.

The commission voted to accept Wilson's resignation from the authority and thanked her for her service. District 5 Commissioner Karean Reynolds then presented Wilson with the Impact Award for her dedication and service to the Atmore community for many years. Delois, a retired registered nurse, has been on the healthcare authority since Oct. 21, 2021.

Reynolds will now nominate someone to replace Wilson on the healthcare authority.

In other business Monday the commission:

- Authorized the Escambia County Extension Service to make landscape changes at the extension building in Brewton.

- Approved grant from the Alabama Department of Youth Services to provide alternatives to sending juvenile offenders to DYS.

- Confirmed and ratified a letter of support to the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, Nationally Significant Federal Lands and Tribal Projects grant application.

- Approved the execution of ingenuity contracts for the judge of probate and tax collector offices for computer services.

- Adopted a resolution to accept a grant for improvements at the intersection of Wolf Log Road and Oil Well Road. Commissioner Larry White thanked the engineering department for finding a grant that would fit the project, noting it was a major intersection that needed addressing.

- Was informed by County Clerk-Administrator Ron Cink that the next commission meeting would be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 13. Cink noted the General Election falls on Nov. 5 and by law the commission had to move the meeting to the 13th.
