Board splits in naming the new chairman
In a vote of 4 to 3, the Escambia County (Ala.) Board of Education selected Board Member Coleman Wallace as board president and Kevin Hoomes unanimously as its vice president at its special annual meeting Monday, Nov. 4.
Wallace was nominated by Danny Benjamin. Sherry Digmon nominated incumbent Loumeek White. Benjamin, Hoomes, Mike Edwards and Wallace voted for Wallace. Cindy Jackson, Digmon and White voted for White.
Digmon nominated Hoomes for vice president.
This annual special meeting is required by the state of Alabama for the purpose of allowing the public to present to the board matters relating to the allotment of public school funds or any other matter related to the administration of the public schools in Escambia County. Also, the board will must meet in November of each year to elect a president and vice-president. The board will nominate and elect a president and vice-president.
The board also unanimously approval of a fiscal year 2024-2025 budget amendment to make minor changes to revenues and expenditures, including the federal carryover money and allowing the beginning balances to be updated to reflect the ending balance of FY 2023.
The board also unanimously approved the following recommended personnel changes at the meeting. The changes are as follows:
