Flomaton police seize fentanyl and meth
Three separate traffic stops in Flomaton led to four arrests on drug charges that included the possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
On Oct. 30, Flomaton Police Officer Derrick Hodges initiated a traffic stop on a Chevrolet S10 pickup truck at the intersection of Roosevelt Street and Highway 29 for a seatbelt violation. Hodges reported the driver was acting suspicious and the K-9 was dispatched to the scene. The K-9 alerted on the vehicle which led to a search where officers located two small plastic bags containing a crystalized substance that tested positive for meth. Officers also found a glass pipe used to ingest drugs.
The driver, William Douglas Covan, 38, 4356 Old Highway 31, Brewton, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Covan was also issued citations for not wearing his seatbelt, no tag light and driving while his license was suspended.
On Oct. 29, Hodges made a traffic stop at the Tom Thumb on a vehicle on which the front windshield was shattered directly in front of the driver’s view..
When the passenger, identified as Eric Patrick Odom, 31, 248 Priscilla Lane, Brewton, was exiting the vehicle a small plastic bag containing a crystalized substance believed to be meth, fell to the ground.
Odom was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Nov. 14, Hodges initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Wilkerson Street and Palafox Street for failure to signal. The vehicle originally failed to stop and continued on Palafox until pulling over at Alley 5.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Darrin Forrest Smith, 54, 280 Franklin Lane, Lot A1, Brewton, and a passenger, identified as Sheyonne Maeleigh Wooley, 25, 903 Woods Road, Atmore, were both removed from the vehicle.
The K-9 was called to the scene and alerted on the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed two small open plastic liquor bottles, plastic straws and fentanyl wrapped up in aluminum foil.
Wooley and Smith were both charged with unlawful possession of dangerous drugs and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Smith was also charged with having an open container, attempting to elude and driving while his license was suspended. Smith was also given a verbal warning for failure to signal.
