Troopers bust two with drugs on I-65

Trafficking charges net a $1 million bond

A state trooper stop on Interstate 65 in Escambia County, Ala., led to the arrest of two Louisiana men on multiple drug charges including trafficking and one suspect, who was identified as a convicted felon, was also charged with for unlawfully possessing a firearm.

Markell Ariana Ross, 25, of Marrero, La., and Alvin Tyrone Butcher III, 25, of Gretna, La., were both charged with two counts of drug trafficking, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Butcher was also charged with certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm.

According to court records, on Nov. 18, the traffic stop was made near the 68 mile marker headed northbound and following a search of the vehicle reported multiple drugs.

Reports said officers seized 3.187 pounds of marijuana, 215 grams of methyienedioxymethamine (MDMA), tetrahydrocannabiol vape pens, 4 grams of ‘dosed’ mushroom chocolate bar psilocybin and digital scales to weigh illegal drugs.

Reports also stated Butcher was in possession of having a loaded pistol after having been convicted of committing a violent crime in Louisiana.

The two were arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton. District Judge Eric Coale later set $1 million bonds on both suspects.
