Tien, hired Dec. 17 by the town council backs out a few days later; Century’s second attempt to hire town clerk
The town of Century still needs a town clerk following its last meeting when an applicant from Michigan was approved but withdrew her application after a series of phone calls from anonymous callers leaving messages that she shouldn’t come to Century.
At its Dec. 17 meeting, the Century Council approved to hire new town clerk, Jennifer Tien, but within days the applicant turned down the position, the second applicant to do so since the town began looking to hire a town clerk.
In September 2024, Flomaton Town Clerk Carrie Moore applied for the position of town clerk for Century. Moore accepted the position but soon after withdrew her application stating it was because he because her mother became ill.
Jennifer Tien from Michigan applied for town clerk, at a salary of $86,000, and a request for three weeks vacation, instead of two weeks. The council approved hiring Tien.
However, when Tien returned to Michigan after the meeting, she withdrew her application.
“There’s just so many moving parts right now,” said Century Mayor Luis Gomez. “But we are still in search of a town clerk.”
Gomez did say the town is searching for a town clerk but did not comment further.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Century Town Hall. The public is invited.
